Little is known of the early history of Mauk United Methodist Church. Its establishment and first years are lost to the memories of those gone beyond.

Mauk Methodist Church was at one time the head of a four-church charge, consisting of Mauk, Rupert, Charing, and Liberty Churches. Of those four, only Mauk and Charing are still active churches. There was also a parsonage near the church in those early years. In 1919 or 1920, Mauk was a part of the Buena Vista Circuit. Church members and community residents remember the time well for it was then that the famous Downing Sisters, either of Columbus or Phenix City, Alabama, visited Mauk. Erecting a gigantic tent beside the church, revival services were held that drew crowds from all about. Ruth and Mary Downing were the evangelistic preachers and their sister, Catherine, provided the singing. Many people joined the church as a result of their great preaching. Several of the older members of Mauk claim that these services marked their entrance into the church.

Mauk became a part of the Howard Charge in 1955.
